Meet our Team
All our teachers are fully experienced, insured and qualified STA/ASA. All teach water safety and confidence. We start our lessons from birth up to 9 years old.
- Zara Morrison, Owner/Swim Instructor
My name is Zara Morrison and started Small Splashes in June 2007, as I felt there was a need for a swim school that would accommodate children from baby to pre-school ages. Swimming has always been a passion of mine so creating this swim school was an easy decision for me. I have been teaching for 20 years at various swim schools along the south coast, training with Lauren Heston in Infant Aquatics in 1994, and this is the area I have stayed in ever since. Not only have I had many years experience of teaching children how to swim, but I have also gained many qualifications along the way too; ASA level 2, ASA Parent and Parent & Child, STA Baby and Pre School and Pool Safety Award. I have a wealth of knowledge and experience in my area of expertise. The STA is a Swimming Teachers Association, this is a charitable foundation who are dedicated to water safety, and therefore my ethos is similar to theirs, so I use their teaching practice and curriculum within Small Splashes.
I am an active person in all aspects of life. In my spare time I like walking, skiing, scuba diving, travelling and eating good food. My husband and I love spending time in France where we discover new places and I can practice my ever improving French. I like to push myself out of my comfort zone, some may say I am a thrill seeker and have completed a tandem skydive, which was quite an incredible experience. Personal development is an important value to me, I read a lot and always love to learn new things.
Sally, Swim InstructorI am Sally Hylands and I trained with Zara after completing my swim qualifications. Like Zara, I believe in the STA ethos so qualified in the STA Baby and Toddler, STA award and STA certificates, level 2. Zara was my swimming mentor for about 1 year after gaining my qualifications and following that I started teaching at Small Splashes. I also work with children aged 3 to teenagers at another swim school in Eastbourne. This means I know what level of swimming a child needs to be at for a smooth transition from Small Splashes to the next swim school they choose to attend at the age of 4.
When I am not a swimming teacher, I enjoy horse riding and walking my dogs on the downs. I enjoy swimming myself. My family and friends are very important to me. In my youth, I swam for Eastbourne Swimming Club both at inter club level and on occasions, at county level. Then I discovered a passion for horse riding, which still remains today.
Cordelia, Swim InstructorI am Cordelia Beldham and I have been teaching babies, toddlers and children up to the age of 10, to swim for 15 years and have been involved with many swim schools in the south east area. I too have my ASA teaching certificate and have kept up to date with regular CPD seminars.
I have 4 children, all of whom swam as babies. Zara taught my two daughters which is where I first met her. I had great admiration and respect for her teaching style, which is why when my daughters moved on, I decided to qualify as a swimming teacher myself. I wouldn’t work for Zara or Small Splashes, if I didn’t believe in her teaching ethos. It didn’t take me long to realise how rewarding it is, not only helping young children to learn to swim and be safe in the water but to watch them grow in confidence and character. I consider it as a privilege to be able to help parents and children to have fun and enjoy the water in a safe and effective way at Small Splashes. I believe it is important for the parents to be part of their baby’s swimming experience so they can continue with their learning around water for the rest of their lives.
Dee Harmer, Swim Instructor, Photographer
The Underwater StudioMy name is Dee Harmer from the Underwater Studio, I am delighted to be a member of the team at Small Splashes. I am your in-house photographer and undertake photo shoots to capture every part of your underwater journey, as we believe it is a momentous experience that parents will want to treasure forever. I am part of the teaching team and look forward to seeing parents and children, old and new.
My passion for the water lead me to qualify five years ago as an underwater photographer as well as becoming a fully qualified swim teacher and scuba diving instructor. I have two water babies myself, who were both taught at Small Splashes and loved every minute. Their love and confidence around water is irreplaceable.
Alex, Swim InstructorAlex has been teaching swimming since 2012 and is passionate that everyone can learn to swim no matter what age or confidence level they start with. She enjoys sea swimming (even in the winter!) & photography when not teaching or being a mum to her 2 teenage children.
